Turning Point

Salam Ramadan !

I know I'm 4 days late, but technically today is my first day of fasting (girls, you know why), so today's the starting line of me doing my acts of worship a lot more extensively. Ramadan is and has always been my favourite month of the year. It's such a beautiful, beautiful month and I am grateful for all of us who are well and alive today to observe Ramadan again.

Ramadan might be our turning point. It's the month to change ourselves, whether it's just for this month or for our whole lives (hopefully, the latter). This month, everybody is changing for the better. One way or another.  Muslims around the world are doing this together, know this and you'll realise how amazing Ramadan is. People who didn't use to pray at all, are praying more now and even going for terawih, people who didn't read the Quran the whole year, this is the time they pick it up, people who used to go partying til wee hours of the morning, now find themselves having sahur with their loved ones instead. We're changing, even if it's just for this month, it's a start.

With that said, it's the month to restart and refresh your life. If you observe the month of Ramadan the best that you can, if you seek for forgiveness and repent properly, insyaAllah all of your past sins will be forgiven. Can you imagine that ? This month, that could happen. But you have to be sincere, you have to want this. But it's not enough to just seek forgiveness from our Creator, you have to seek forgiveness from everyone, and you too, have to forgive yourself. Don't beat yourself up for all the wrong things you've done in your life. Don't hold grudges on people who have done or said things to you, Allah can forgive you, so you have no reason to not forgive them. Reconnect with your friends and family, go buka and terawih with them. Do things together for the sake of Allah, imagine how much your pahala will multiply. Observing the month of Ramadan is not just about fasting and the prayers you make, and how much Quran you read. Its also about how you act. How you behave. How you carry yourself. How you treat others. This month, all of that changes. This month, it's easier for us to become patient, it's easier for us to do more good and less bad. It's not too late for us.

I listened to this talk about True Love by Mufti Menk (link here) and if you guys are free, do give it a listen. Because come on, who doesn't like the topic of love ? But anyway, I felt like this talk gave me such an important message, and I want to share it here. Ultimately our one and only true love will always be Allah. It's the only love that can never let you down, and your heart will never be broken. Loving Allah will actually build your heart from the pieces that have been broken from everything / everyone else, because who has more control over your heart than He who created it ? Who created you ? We humans operate in such a way that if we love somebody, we will never ever want to hurt them. We would go out of our way to make sure that they're happy, we give things to them when they don't even ask for it - so the question here is. If we love Allah and we love our religion, why aren't we able to do it for Him too ? If someone we love gave us a book right, we'd read it and finish it ASAP. So how come we aren't able to read and understand the Quran, when the book was given to us ? Questions to ponder and reflect upon. May we be able to focus on building our relationship and love towards Allah this month. Amin.

By the way, Mufti Menk has a series of talks recorded everyday this Ramadan so if you're interested in listening to them too, just click here. Currently it's on episode 5 (because duh, 5 days of puasa already haha) so go catch up and listen ! I swear you'll want to be a better muslim by the end of every talk. And if you like my writings about Islam, you can click here or click 'Faith' in my labels section right at the bottom of my blog to read more. I wanna be able to share all the knowledge I have about Islam with everyone.

We should take advantage of Ramadan because we don't know if we're still going to be here for the next. Sins will be forgiven, doa(s) will be answered, mercy will be shown. Lets make it a point to come out of Ramadan, stronger and better than ever. There are so many things happening around the world and the condition of the world may never get better, but at least we have our faith. To end this post, I seek forgiveness from everyone who happens to read this and I hope you have a blessed and wonderful Ramadan. I can't wait to blog more because guys, I'm finally done with my fourth semester and my finals end next week !

  3. I strive to be as positive as you are Izza. You always make a point to learn more about Islam and share your knowledge with your readers. Its nice to read posts like these because it makes me want to learn about Islam more in depth. Its a good reminder because I find myself getting lost in my own world and not prioritising the most important thing which is my religion. I hope you have a blessed Ramadhan Izza. Do share more of your knowledge in this little space :) xx

    1. Hiii, a lot of the new friends I make are mostly because we have mutual friends. I can't remember the last time I made a friend on my own and had a really good connection :( I totally understand about wanting change, and omg I know right !! Making friends is so hard haha like how do you know if you guys can click, and where to look for them anyway ?! I It's okay, I think things like this will come on their own naturally. I believe that the right people / friends will eventually show up in your life one way or another. I'm sorry I'm not much help at all, but I suck at making friends too haha. Feel better ! x
