When You Love, You Commit.

[ com.mit.ment ; noun ]

1.  A pledge or obligation, as to follow a certain course of action

2. The state of being emotionally or intellectually devoted, as to a belief, a course of action, or another person

A little food for thought before I head to bed tonight. I found that picture up there a while ago on Tumblr, but I totally forgot about it and it somehow reappeared again on my Twitter feed a few days back. The first time I read the text, I only reflected on it in a romantic relationship kind of perspective. Y'know like ; when you love, you commit. You commit to being there for each other, you commit to being loyal, you commit to being & wanting the best for them consistently. But then I read it again, and it got me pondering that this could be applied to almost everything - religion being the most important. It's simple : When you love your religion, you commit. You commit to its obligations, you commit to its restrictions, you commit to its beliefs.

Do I love my religion ? Yes

But, am I fully committed ? Umm..

From now onwards, I want to try and be more and more committed - until I eventually hit the fully committed mark. I think know my religion is beautiful. I learn about it and I am always in awe of how Allah has made everything perfect, and balanced, and easy for us. Everything has a reason, everything has a plan. But I am human, and I am prone to slacking because I am weak. Sometimes I do things without thinking of consequences, sometimes I forget that there's a counter keeping track of all of my good & bad, and sometimes I forget that there is an eternal life waiting for me on the other side. I am often too fixated on what this life is going to bring me, that I commit my life to achieving things in this world. This world that is temporary. I am ambitious, but not ambitious enough. I have dreams of owning a nice house, and travel the world, and have a stable job with a good pay ; all the worldly pleasures you could think of, I have a plan for them all. But I fail to think beyond that. I fail to think about what my purpose and goals actually are as a muslim. It's so much more than just praying and fasting.

It's about learning deeper about Islam, being a person with good character, and trying my best to succeed in both, this life and the next.
That is commitment, and that is what loving my religion is all about.

I am going to learn to be more committed. To my religion, to my loved ones, to myself.

  1. Commitment is something someone has to work on I suppose it does not come naturally, usually gradually in time. I actually like reading your posts about faith, I think it holds a lot of spiritual value. :)

Also I want to tell you I linked one of your post in my blog (latest post), I hope you don't mind!
