Hello, Ramadan

Salam Ramadan !

Every year, I see Ramadan as a month of new beginnings. It's the month of forgiveness, hence making it the perfect time to start over. To start being a better person, to start being a better daughter, sister, friend, everything. It's the month to forgive, and be forgiven. Ramadan is the month of change, changing to be better for yourself. What sometimes we fail to remember, is that whatever Allah SWT asks us to do, it is only for our benefit. Islam has made it so simple for us, yet we complicate it with this and that. Allah has given us guidelines to follow on this Earth, and if we follow it, we get rewarded immensely ; the best reward being Jannah. And if we don't follow the guidelines, we lose ourselves in this dunya and get something else in the hereafter. The point I'm trying to get at is, it's never too late to follow these guidelines. If you only pray once or twice a day, now's the time to kick it up a notch and pray 3 or 4, and slowly but eventually, 5. If you spend hours on YouTube watching beauty and fashion videos, take 10 minutes from that to watch a lecture by Islamic scholars on YouTube instead. Changing yourself for the better, doesn't have to be drastic. Allah loves those who are consistently trying to better themselves. Take baby steps and it's these little things that we change in our habits that will help us gain closeness to Allah SWT. The only thing now is that you have to want it. You have to want to change, you have to have the intention, and Allah will make it easy for you. Allah will not guide those who don't want to be guided.

Ramadan is a huge blessing to us all, whether we realise it or not. Every night Allah has people who he redeems from the fire. The first 10 days of Ramadan are days of Mercy, Allah will shower his mercy upon us. Sins will be decreased, and prayers will get answered. Allah will look at us competing in good deeds these first 10 days and will boast about us to His angels. The second 10 days are days of Forgiveness from Allah SWT, and the last third is when Allah SWT frees the believers from Jahannam.

In this month, we are shielded from hell-fire, protected from the shayateen (satins), and cleansed from our sins. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever fasts during Ramadan out of sincere faith, hoping to attain Allah’s rewards, then all of his past sins will be forgiven.” (Bukhari).  In another hadith he ﷺ said: “When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained.” [Bukhari]

I'm determined to make this Ramadan better than all the other Ramadan's I've had. Because, reality check : I don't know if I'm still gonna be here for the next Ramadan. So really, I wanna treat this one like it's my last. I've made a list of things I want to do, and also a list of things that I want to refrain from doing.

Ibadah
 - Not missing any prayers
- Going for Terawih as frequently as possible
(Easier now that I have a car and I can drive)
- Praying more sunnah prayers
- Waking up for Tahajjud at least twice a week. At least !
- Reading more Quran and the translations

Reading List (as shown as the photo above)
- Reclaim Your Heart by Yasmin Mogahed
(I'm re-reading this because it's just sooo good)
- Love of Allah, Experience The Beauty of Salah
Download it from here and get it printed : click here
- The End of The World by Dr. Muhammad al-'Areefi
- Don't Be Sad by Dr A'id al Qarni

Refraining List
- Music. Substituting it with talks / lectures by Mufti Menk & Nouman Ali Khan
- Movies / TV Series / Irrelevant YouTube Videos
- Tumblr
- Speaking about other people. Gossiping / Backbiting
- Speaking negative things in general
- Cursing

Blog
More faith related things !

Oh and guys, if you're into planners and jotting things down like I am ; download this Ramadan Battle Plan ! Kak Imani (Irfan's sister) sent it to me and it's so so cool, you can list down all your Ramadan goals, keep track of your fasting and terawih, reflect on your first / second / third 10 days of Ramadan and even list down your buka plans with people hahaha.
Get it printed after you download it for free here : click here
From the photo above, it's the bottom left. I printed mine out in A5.

Also, if you have an iPhone. Go download this app called : Ramadan Legacy

It basically looks like this :

Also like the Ramadan Battle Plan planner, you're able to track your fasting / terawih / obligatory prayers and all that on this app too, and you get a dua', ayah, and hadith of the day that you can read daily when you open the app. The interface is very user friendly ! It's an awesome app, so excited to use it myself.

I think I've rambled enough in this post. To conclude all of this ; Ramadan is an amazing month. Please take advantage of that and not take it for granted. Do it for you. I also apologise for my lack of updates, I've started my fourth semester and this week is all about introductions to new subjects, etc so I've been quite busy. But I'm looking forward to blogging more, especially faith related topics and also blog about what I've learned from the conference I attended last Saturday 'Being ME ; Love Aisha'. It was so beneficial for me, and I was glad to be have been there with Kak Imani too. Cause usually I sit with my mum and my aunty for these kind of things, so having someone closer to my age with me, I feel like we could relate better together. Oh and speaking of which, Irfan and his family are flying off to Mekah later ! So jealous and ugh I wanna pack myself in their suitcase sebab nak ikut but sooo happy and excited for them nonetheless !! They're going to do their umrah there and stay for a week (and fact, umrah during Ramadhan is equivalent to pahala of doing Hajj') Oh the bliss of fasting in Islam's holiest site on Earth ! I'm gonna make Irfan pray a lot for me. For us also la. Hehe. Haih I just really wanna follow D: But it's okay, insyaAllah one day I'll be able to fast and set foot in Mekah too.

Anyway, selamat berpuasa to everyone, and let's start this month by forgiving and giving each other a clean slate now, shall we ?
Jangan nak tunggu Raya baru nak 'forgive and forget'. Forgiving others makes you feel a lot lighter and you feel a lot better too, trust me.
Have a blessed Ramadan and don't forget to keep your heart sincere and to make dua for each other. Love you guys ! x

  2. Salam ramadhan izza! like you, i determine to change for good as well, and preparing myself to do better for ramdhan this year. there has been a confusion in my head since quite awhile and i would like to hear an opinion/advice from you since we are Muslim sisters :) These 2-3 years has not been a good year for me and it actually makes me sad and what worse is that i start to questioning everything. i know it is wrong for us,muslims to question what God has planned when He is All-Knowing. I motivate myself to be positive and keep in mind that to get rainbow, you have to deal with rain. it works, but most of the time it doesn't. i'm scared if God is angry with me that he doesn't wanna granted my du'a for anything that i have done before. i would love to hear from you, izza :) xx

    1. Salam ramadan to you too ! Why hasn't it been good ? It's okay to want to question everything, but you must have faith in Allah that He is going to make everything better for you. Please remember that Allah will not burden you with something you can't handle, if He is making you go through these things it's because He wants you to come out to be stronger. Allah loves you very much. You know how a mother loves their child ? Buat salah besar mana pun, they'll still forgive you because they love you ? Allah loves you more than that. So don't ever think Allah is angry at you that he doesn't want to grant your du'a(s). There's a reason behind everything that happens so you just have to be strong, and be patient okay ? Surround yourself with positive people, do things that make you happy and focus on being the best person you can. InsyaAllah, things will turn around for you. x

    1. Waalaikummusalam. Thank you ! Salam Ramadan to you toooo. Haha I really don't know how I build my confidence, I think I've always been a bit of an attention seeker so since I was small I was never shy to speak or dance or anything like that in front of a lot of people hahaha. But what you can do is practice a lot, if you're presenting something with a script, memorize it and practice it over and over. And try presenting in front of your family or close friends too ! When presenting, just focus on what you have to say and not the people listening or looking at you. InsyaAllah you'll be fine, good luck ! <3

    1. Try not to put a lot of heavy stuff in it ! I have a brown one that I used to carry my books and laptop in and now the hujung hujung macam nak koyak dah hahaha. But my fault tho putting everything in it T.T The black one I carry around when I go out, I've had it for almost a year but it's still in very condition sebab I'm not that rough with it. Try keeping yours in a dustbag or something ?? Sorry I'm not much help, I have no idea how to take care of them properly too :(
