Sandwich Artist

You can totally tell what my favourite colours are from this photo.
Before I start, look at my new laptop bed stand I got from IKEA the other day ! I like using my laptop in bed but I don't like putting it directly on the bed cause it'll overheat.. So I put it on my lap but it gets uncomfortable after a few minutes because it gets hot on my skin and I usually wear thin-material clothes at home which doesn't help at all. But now that I've got the laptop stand, I can totally use my laptop in bed with ease (and comfort).

Anyway, I've been working at Subway since Monday and I'm loving it so far. It's very different from working at Baskin Robbins, that's for sure. I'm on kitchen duty this week ; which means I cut vegetables, do all the washing, help bake cookies and bread, prepare meat. All the kitchen-y stuff. If you're thinking 'ew you actually do all that'. Yes, I do actually do all of that and no I don't have a problem with it at all because I actually enjoy doing it. It sounds like a hell lot of work and maybe it is but I don't really feel it. 5 days in Subway and I feel like I could get along pretty well with the people I work with already, they're all really nice and helpful. When I'm done with all the kitchen stuff, I usually go to the service bar and help make sandwiches. That's a lot of fun, I swear. I feel like such a pro when I'm piling all the meat / cheese / vege and squeezing the different types of sauces on their sandwiches. When it's done and all wrapped up, it feels like I just created a delicious masterpiece. I think that's why our aprons say "Sandwich Artist" under the Subway logo.

Bare faced at 7AM on my second day of work. (No uniform yet)
My shift changes weekly, so if this week I come in for the opening shift, next week is closing. Opening shift means I have to be at work by 7AM and I finish at 3PM. Closing shift would be from 3PM to 11.30PM - 12AM (depending on how long it takes for us to clean the place and get everything ready for the next day). Duties also change on a weekly basis, there are three ; kitchen, service bar and dining hall. So tomorrow's gonna be my last day doing kitchen duty, I might be on service bar duty next week for closing shift. I work 6 days a week. If you guys are interested in me writing a whole post about work or if you'd just like to know about part time / full time jobs or my working experience in depth, or a comparison between working at Baskin Robbins and Subway, how it's been and the pay and all that, do let me know in the comments ! (Click on the title of this post and then you can leave a comment as yourself / anonymous in the comments section below). I like earning my own money, and I like spending my own money. It feels like an accomplishment. Sort of like when you cook your own food and it tastes like the best thing in the world ? Yeah I get that when I spend my own money. I also end up appreciating my stuff a lot more because I earned and worked really hard for it.

Post-work mirror selfie at a random furniture store before my trip to IKEA with my mum + brother.
Besides work and the little shopping trip to IKEA, I met my friends in Taman Tun yesterday and drove back home all the way to Bukit Jelutong in a moving jam. Proud of myself because that's the furthest I've driven without adult / driving instructor supervision, and it was at night ! On a highway, with a jam. Pretty big deal to me since I just got my license and nobody trusts me with their car yet haha.

If anyone's going to the Foodgasm Fest 2.0 in TTDI this Sunday, insyaallah I'll see you guys there. Irfan and his sister Kak Imani invited me to join them and I can't waaaait. We love food = Food festivals are definitely our thing. According to their poster, it's a food festival with 'leisure picnic style' which means there will be places available for us to sit and just have a picnic haha. I stalked their Instagram (@foodgasmfest) a couple hours ago and holy crap, the booths that are going to be there are going to serve hella good lookin (and hopefully good tastin') food. Go check out their Instagram for yourself. Details of the event below :

I start my second semester on the 10th of November, soooo not looking forward to it because I have Elementary Accounting and Quantitative Techniques in my list of subjects... I absolutely hate numbers. But sigh, I'll *try* to like them. Can't ace something you don't have interest in. Well, I'll just enjoy my sem break while it lasts. Will update soon. x

  1. Heyy izzaty! Just wanna ask about the job in subway :) what's the difference between full time and part time? Difference in working time and the pay. I'm about to finish my sem 1 and decided to work in subway for my seem break. I want to experience working and this would be my first time working, inshaa Allah :) I would really love to earn my own money. So yeah, that's it then. I hope I didn't bother with these pesky questions 😁

    1. Hi ! My name is Izza, not Izzaty.. haha. Anyway the difference between full time and part time in Subway is full time you have to work 6 days a week. Part time, you can tell them which days you are available to work and you can come in maybe once or twice a week and they'll call you when they need you. A day you work 8 hours. For the pay, it depends on the Subway outlet. Like mine they pay 6 ringgit per hour but other Subway outlets might pay 5 ringgit or more. So make sure you ask first. You should work ! It's a really good experience. x

    1. Hi ! I just went there and asked anyone working there if there are any vacancies :) Then they'll probably ask you to fill up a form or leave your contact details so they could call. For Subway, since I asked the owner of the store itself I got interviewed right there and then, like why I wanna work, how many days a week, all that stuff. For br, they called me a few days after I left my contact details there.

    1. Hi ! Will do, when I have the free time ! But long story short, choose Subway. I like it a lot better based on experience. BR seems easy but it's such a pain to bend down all the time to scoop ice cream, especially if the ice cream is hard and tough to scoop. Subway is a lot more fun.
